Nambour Community Preschool and Kindergarten

Welcome to Nambour Community Kindergarten

We’re located on the corner of James St & Howard St, Nambour, so you may also know us as James Street Kindy.

We’ve been here more than 65 years and it’s a pleasure to welcome every family to our Kindergarten.

As a Lady Gowrie affiliated Community Kindergarten we offer accessible, inclusive and high-quality Kindergarten programs that celebrate the wonder, possibility & joy of childhood through play based learning.

We appreciate every child as an individual, helping them to grow, at their own pace, in readiness for school.

We look forward to meeting you and your child.

Kindergarten days start outdoors in our spacious backyard or low set covered verandah.

Large shady trees invite local birdlife and our tree lined yarning circle, mud patch and sandpit encourage child led creativity to bloom into learning.

Our character filled fort doubles as a site for imaginative play and physical challenge and completes the rich, socially responsive and interactive space your child will enjoy.

Our warm and caring staff are all highly qualified with many years of experience in Kindergarten settings.

From the moment families walk in the door our staff chat and get to know children, and families alike, in order to understand each child’s unique needs, interests and learning styles. This creates a supportive environment where children thrive.

Our staff apply intentional teaching practices which incorporate the children’s spontaneous experiences and varied interests into a flexible curriculum. This promotes learning through everyday experiences and contributes to social and emotional development, as well as problem solving, literacy, numeracy and scientific learning.

“My kids loved to play in nature everyday at Kindy and occasionally eat from the veggie patch…I’m so happy I sent my children to James St, we left with many valuable memories.”

Testimonials

“Both of my children attended Nambour Community Kindergarten and we loved it. The teachers and child relationships that are built are second to none. The indoor – outdoor facilities are fantastic. The large garden and ample play equipment ensure your little ones keep fit and are getting plenty of fresh air. Attention to detail, setting up different creative & play-based activities everyday to engage the kids and the space just feels so calm and welcoming.”

– URSULA

“Our family has been so incredibly blessed to have our son attend this beautiful kindy for two years. From our very first visit the educators have always been so welcoming and dedicated to grow and foster the relationship with not only our son, but with us as a whole family. They have truly taken the time to know each child as the unique individuals that they are and without fault, respect and value them whole heartedly.

As we brought our second child into the world the wonderful educators watched her grow with us and as she became more adventuous and intrigued by the kindy activities and environment they were so welcoming and inviting of her to join in and participate with all the other children.

It has become what feels like a second home.”

“I will forever be grateful for the recommendation to James Street Kindergarten. From the moment we enquired -the warmth, care and concern form the staff has meant that the transition to send our children to their first kindergarten was stress free and filled with joy and excitement. Through the three years our children have been attending we have become part of a wonderful community, almost like a family; from staff and other parents also. The teachers have a genuine care for the children’s development and well being and work in consultation with families to ensure the children’s environment is nurturing, stimulating and educational. I look forward to our youngest starting their next year but will be sad when we are no longer part of the James Street Community Kindergarten.”

Tamara

“My girls flourished and thrived in the caring, child-centered environment and have learned so much and made great friends. I have made some life-long friends from the parents I met there also – friends who have remained in our lives even though we are all spread across a few schools these days. There is a great sense of community about this Kindy that makes it a really special place to be a part of.”

Our Operating Hours

Nambour Community Kindergarten follows State School terms, with the same holiday breaks.

We operate on a five day fortnight model with two groups of 22 children:

  • GREEN GROUP | 8.45am – 2.45pm, on a Monday, Tuesday and every second Wednesday or
  • YELLOW GROUP | 8.45am -2.45am on a Thursday, Friday and every second Wednesday

Within each group the children build strong connections with both Educators and their peers. A sense of flexible routine develops with consistency amongst Educators and children in each group and belonging emerges within the children.
